As a family of four, with two little ones under two, embarking on our first holiday together was both exciting and VERY nerve-wracking. Although not the most relaxing holiday, our stay at the beautiful Dusit Thani Maldives made it an unforgettable experience filled with joy and cherished memories.

Getting To Dusit Thani Maldives from the airport

The journey to Dusit Thani Maldives was an adventure that set the tone for the trip. After taking a short 25-minute domestic flight from Velana Airport in Male to Dharavandhoo, our family hopped on a scenic speedboat ride to the resort. Maia was absolutely fascinated by the sights, but little Noah was more agitated with the wind blowing in his little face even though he was snug in the baby carrier. Once we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with warm smiles and refreshing welcome drinks - the perfect start to our getaway.

Our gorgeous Overwater Villa

Our home for the next two nights was a stunning overwater villa with a private pool. It was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The turquoise waters surrounding the villa were mesmerising, and having our own pool meant we could relax and swim whenever we wanted - perfect for travelling with little ones. Watching the sunset from our deck while Maia played nearby was a magical moment we’ll treasure forever.

Turning 27 in paradise - a Birthday to Remember

The next morning was extra special: it was my 27th birthday! The day began with an amazing floating breakfast served in our pool. The floating spread was a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds, featuring perfectly cooked eggs, french pastries, and refreshing fresh juices. It was such a treat to celebrate in this unique way, surrounded by my little family.

Later, we headed to the main pool, where Maia had the time of her life splashing and giggling in the water - swimming along independantly with her armbands on. It was such a joy to see her confidence in the pool grow, and Noah happily snoozed in the shade in his pram. We ended the day with a lovely dinner at one of the resort’s a la carte restaurants, where I enjoyed a creamy and flavourful mushroom risotto that was simply divine.

Exploring the Island

Our last morning started with a delicious buffet breakfast at the main restaurant. There were so many options to choose from, and we loved savouring our meal while enjoying the serene island atmosphere. After breakfast, we took a leisurely walk around the island. Towering palm trees, lush greenery, and the sound of waves crashing in the distance made it a walk to remember.

What stood out to me was how remarkably green the island is - such beautiful flora and fauna everywhere you look. Dense jungle-like atmosphere which adds to the charm of the island.

One highlight was visiting the Tree of Wishes, where we tied our ribbon and made a wish for our little family. It felt so symbolic and meaningful to add our story to this beautiful tradition.

Short but very Sweet

Our two-night, three-day stay at Dusit Thani Maldives was short but oh-so-sweet. It was the perfect introduction to family holidays for us, filled with special moments, from Maia’s joy in the pool to quiet sunsets by the villa. Leaving was bittersweet, but we’re already dreaming of our next adventure as a family of four.

If you’re looking for a luxurious yet family-friendly getaway in the Maldives, Dusit Thani is a fantastic choice. Thank you, Dusit Thani Maldives, for giving us memories we’ll cherish forever!
